Free crypto data API
The register, the venture data and the open market statistics behind Statistics and Ventures, as JSON. Free, no sign-up needed, licensed CC BY 4.0.
Quick start
Send a GET request; no key or account is needed.
curl https://bitorgs.com/api/v1/organizations?class=exchanges&per_page=5
Every response has the same shape: the payload in data, and paging, freshness and licence details in meta.
{
"data": [ { "name": "Kraken", "slug": "kraken", "class": "Centralized Exchanges", "country": "US", … } ],
"meta": { "page": 1, "total": 134, "license": { "name": "CC BY 4.0", … }, "generated_at": "…" }
}
Good to know
- Base URL:
https://bitorgs.com/api/v1 - Format: JSON, UTF-8. CORS is open, so you can call it from a browser.
- Caching: responses carry
Cache-Controland anETag. SendIf-None-Matchand you get an empty304when nothing changed, which does not count against you in bandwidth. - Bulk data: for register statistics, the CSV downloads are cheaper than paging.
- Machine-readable spec: OpenAPI 3.1.

Get a free API key
A key raises your limits and lets us contact you about changes. We email it to you, so use an address you can read. We never show the key again and store only a hash of it.
Terms, in plain words
- Licence: BitOrgs data is CC BY 4.0. Use it in free or commercial projects; credit “Data: BitOrgs (bitorgs.com)” with a link.
- Third-party figures in
/marketkeep their source (DefiLlama, mempool.space, Alternative.me). Credit them too. - Be fair: cache what you fetch, respect the limits, and do not rotate IPs or keys to get around them. Keys used that way are revoked.
- No guarantees: the data is provided as is, without uptime or accuracy guarantees, and is not investment advice. Inclusion in the register is not an endorsement.
- Changes: v1 stays backwards compatible; breaking changes go to a new version with notice to key holders.
Questions
- Is the BitOrgs API free?
- Yes. Every endpoint is free. Without a key you can make 30 requests a minute and 1,000 a day; a free key raises that to 120 a minute and 20,000 a day.
- Do I need an API key?
- No. Keys are optional and only raise your limits. Request one below and it is emailed to you, which keeps the service open while stopping abuse.
- How do I credit BitOrgs?
- The data is licensed CC BY 4.0. Show “Data: BitOrgs (bitorgs.com)” with a link near where you use it. For market figures, credit the original source named in each block as well.
- How fresh is the data?
- Register data updates continuously and the statistics snapshot every 15 minutes. Market blocks refresh every 1–60 minutes, funding announcements every 6 hours, and each response says when it was generated.
- Why are prices not in the API?
- Live prices and some market feeds on our statistics page come from providers whose terms do not allow us to redistribute them. The API only serves our own data and openly licensed sources.
- What happens if I exceed the limit?
- You get HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header telling you how many seconds to wait. Every response also carries RateLimit headers so you can slow down before hitting it.
